Everton Inquired About Idrissa Gueye in the Transfer Window’s Final Hours

The January transfer window is about to close, and over the next few days, reports will surface of deals that didn’t cross the finish line or possible interest a club had in a particular player.

The Athletic’s Simon Johnson reports that Everton was interested in bringing back Idrissa Gueye. The Premier League club began to position itself in recent days for the return of Gueye.

However, Johnson stated that it was a problematic file to pursue as there were only a few hours left with the transfer window. However, it should plant some seeds for a possible departure in the summertime for Gueye.

The 32-year-old’s contract expires in 2023, so the capital club might look to offload the midfielder. PSG could be in the market for one or two midfielders as they’re linked to players like Manchester United’s Paul Pogba, so it would push Gueye down the depth chart.

Nonetheless, if Gueye returns to Everton, what occurred in the final hours of this transfer window could spill over to the summer.
