‘We Must Do More’ – Kylian Mbappé Understands PSG’s Attacking Trio Needs to Improve

When Paris Saint-Germain landed Lionel Messi this past summer following his departure from FC Barcelona, they did so with the envision of putting together an attack that would terrorize France and Europe, paring Messi with Neymar Jr. and Mbappé.

However, that hasn’t been the case. The trio has had spurts of what the attack can be when they’re clicking, but it hasn’t been consistent thus far this season. During an interview with Prime Video (via Foot Mercato), Mbappé spoke with Thierry Henry and stated that he knows that they need to be better as a group.

“We are aware that we must do more. Three players of this level, of this status (…) we can’t hide, we have to assume. We have to create something, where we don’t see ourselves detached from the team, defensively but also offensively,” Mbappé said.

Since the start of the 2021-22 season, Messi has four goals and three assists in 13 appearances; meanwhile, Neymar has three goals and three assists in 14 games. Finally, Mbappé, who has been carrying the load, has nine goals and 13 assists in 21 games, disappointing numbers from what many expected out of the trio.

Neymar is out with an ankle injury, and over the next two months, Mbappé and Messi will look to develop chemistry until the 29-year-old returns.
