Paris Saint-Germain finished their 2021 calendar year on a sour note as the capital club drew 1-1 against FC Lorient, in a result that felt like a loss considering that they needed a late goal in extra time from Mauro Icardi to salvage a point against a team fighting relegation.
After the matchup, manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke to the media at his press conference, where he took stock of PSG’s 2021-22 season as they reached the holiday break.
“In terms of our results, they are currently in line in the three competitions: Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and the Champions League. They are correct, I believe. In terms of performance, we are still looking. We are looking for the best way to organize the team to play the way we want to do it,” Pochettino said.
“These first four months of competition coincided with a high density of matches and a lot of travel. There were also circumstances that made it impossible for the pieces of the puzzle to complement each other and for everything to work in the best way. It will come with time, we can still do much better, but the general idea is in line with what we want.”
