Video: ‘We Are Going to Need Him’ – Kylian Mbappé Explains Decision to Let Lionel Messi Take Penalty Kick

Paris Saint-Germain got off to a great start against Club Brugge. Kylian Mbappé had two goals less than ten minutes into the match. However, the 22-year-old wasn’t the only one to score a brace.

Lionel Messi provided his brace, first scoring a great goal from outside the box in typical Messi fashion. Then the 34-year-old converted a penalty kick for his second strike.

After the match, Mbappé spoke with RMC Sport, where he discussed conceding the penalty kick opportunity to Messi despite having the chance to secure a hat-trick for himself.

“We’re going to need Lionel Messi. This remains Lionel Messi. We are going to need him during the season, and I am sure he will help us when the important deadlines come up,” Mbappé said.

“He has to arrive with confidence for these matches. He will give it back to us too. It’s good for him that he ends up with two goals, but it’s also good for us for the future.”
