Paris Saint-Germain forwards Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe have had potent success in all competitions as of late. Messi has shined in UEFA Champions League play, while Mbappe continues to deliver in critical situations in Ligue 1.
As PSG is set to face off with AS Monaco, manager Niko Kovac sees that to defend against these two star talents, it will take one collective effort from his team to do just that, which he touched on during a press conference ahead of the match.
“Both are world-class players with very different styles,” Kovac said. “Lionel Messi does incredible things with the ball on his feet. Kylian Mbappé is a striker who uses his speed and power more, attacking from deep. We have to find the right balance to defend against him. But what is certain is that if we want to defend well on them, we have to do it all together.
“I don’t think we can defend on these players individually. A good result requires a collective discipline and a constant effort.”
This sure will be a fixture to watch on Ligue 1 matchday 18.
