Herrera Shares a Behind-the-Scenes Perspective on How Messi Has Been a Leader at PSG

Paris Saint-Germain is filled with multiple on and off the pitch leaders, and for midfielder Ander Herrera, he sees that Lionel Messi has already exemplified such traits.

In speaking to the Spanish-based outlet Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish midfielder touched on just how Messi has been a leader within the team so far in his early run with PSG.

“During my career, I have come across leaders by word, like Sergio Ramos, and then by example, like Messi,” Herrera said. “He has won his seventh Ballon d’Or, and he trains and enjoys it as if he were just starting to play. He doesn’t take a single action in training as a joke.”

There has been quite a narrative for years now that Messi does not have what it takes to be a leader within a team, but Herrera sees that with the Argentine’s run at the Ligue 1 side, this has been far from the case.

On the pitch, Messi has picked up his form as of late. He has already reached double-digits in goal contributions on the season, which include five goals scored in UEFA Champions League play.

A multitude of key fixtures in all competitions will await Herrera, Messi and the rest of PSG over the second half of the season.
