Ivan Rakitić spent six seasons with FC Barcelona before leaving the Spanish club in 2020. However, during his time with the La Liga side, the midfielder admitted that he was approached about the possibility of playing for Paris Saint-Germain in recent years.
In an interview with beIN Sports France, the 33-year-old stated several reasons why the move didn’t happen. Nonetheless, considering the tension between the two clubs, a transfer between PSG and Barcelona seems impossible.
“Ah! Today, I would like it! If PSG is missing a midfielder, Nasser or Leonardo can call me (laughs)! No, more seriously, it did not happen for several reasons. I would have liked to play in Paris. PSG for me what they are achieving, not only this season but for several years, deserves great respect,” Rakitić said.
“I take my hat off to the president, Leonardo, and the coach. They grew up very quickly. They have a lot more pressure today. I would have been happy to join Paris, but my transfer did not take place. I was finally happy to stay in Barcelona.”
Rakitić would leave for Sevilla with the La Liga rival paying a mear €1.5m transfer fee.
