Report: Xavi Simons Isn’t Sure About Signing New Contract With PSG

Paris Saint-Germain youth products understand the difficulty of cracking the first team. The last player to break through was Presnel Kimpembe, but that seems like a rare occurrence as plenty of young players have looked for greener pastures elsewhere.

When the capital club lured Xavi Simons from FC Barcelona, the Ligue 1 side believed the teenager could crack the first team consistently. However, that has not yet materialized under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The 18-year-old’s contract expires in June, so both parties have to discuss his future. On his “Here We Go” Podcast, Italian football and transfer window journalist Fabrizio Romano stated that the teenage midfielder is hesitant to extend his contract with the capital club.

Simons is currently evaluating the situation with his agent Mino Raiola on whether he plans to prolong his stay in the French capital.

“Xavi Simons? PSG offered him a contract a long time ago… It was only a matter of time for him to accept this deal. But now Xavi Simons is not sure whether he should sign this contract or not,” Romano said.

“He is working on this with Mino Raiola because the midfielder knows that PSG is very difficult for young players to win in the first team. So it is not sure that he signs a new contract with PSG.”

The Netherlands international could be the next in the long list of names to decline a contract extension with PSG and head elsewhere to look for more playing time.
