Pochettino Provides a Unique Takeaway on Lionel Messi’s 3-Assist Performance vs. AS Saint-Etienne

A week after picking up his first career goal in Ligue 1, Lionel Messi recorded his first assists in France’s top flight during Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-1 league win over AS Saint-Etienne. The Argentine forward shined as he assisted defender Marquinhos for two goals and also dished off one assist to longtime Argentina national team counterpart Angel Di Maria.

PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino comes away from this match pleased with the showing from Messi, which he opened up about to Prime Video Sport France.

“This is important,” Pochettino said. “Leo is an incredible player. That he gives three assists is important too. It’s just a matter of time for him to score goals.”

Messi has now totaled for four goal contributions in PSG’s last two league matches. After a notable slow start to the campaign where he failed to score or assist in his opening five league fixtures with PSG this season, the Argentine is now beginning to find his stride at just the right time in the campaign.

Messi sure will look to make it three straight matches with at least one goal contribution in PSG’s upcoming home league encounter with OGC Nice.
