Pochettino Opens Up on Last Summer’s Rumors of a Possible Return to Tottenham

The recent summer transfer window was filled with a multitude of notable rumors. For one, Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino was linked with a possible managerial return to Tottenham.

In the end, Pochettino stayed on with PSG, as the side then went on to sign the likes of Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos over the transfer window.

Most notably, Pochettino did not publicly respond to these such rumors and, in speaking to The Guardian, he revealed on why he elected to take this approach.

“You never know from where these rumors appear, and I am a person who doesn’t like to take advantage of these things,” Pochettino said. “That’s why I didn’t talk. The people criticized me here in France, the media … ‘Why doesn’t Mauricio give his word about staying in Paris?’ But when you don’t create things, why am I going to say something? I don’t need to clarify things. Of course, I listened to everything. But, yes … never happened, that.”

Pochettino is currently in his second season with PSG. He sure has hefty expectations to not only lead the team to triumph in both Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France this season but also in the UEFA Champions League.

PSG will return to Champions League group stage play with the away fixture against Manchester City this week. The Ligue 1 side is aiming to finish with the top spot in Group A.
