Paris Saint-Germain was present during the Ballon d’Or presentation as two capital club players came away with some awards.
Gianluigi Donnarumma won the Yashin Trophy, given to the best goalkeeper. The 22-year-old beat out Chelsea FC’s Edouard Mendy for the award, which came with some controversy as some believed the 29-year-old should’ve won.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi claimed his seventh Ballon d’Or of his career, which also came with its share of controversy. Many hoped that FC Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski would win the award.
Nonetheless, club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi spoke to PSG TV, giving glowing praise for both players for their respective individual achievements and helping put the Ligue 1 side on another global stage.
“I want to warmly congratulate Leo. It is a great pride for the Club that one of our players won the most prestigious and coveted title,” Al-Khelaifi said.
