Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi came into the Argentina national team’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture against Brazil without a career goal contribution in six competitive matches against them.

Messi had failed to log a goal contribution against Brazil in three World Cup qualifying fixtures and three Copa America matches.

The PSG star extended this streak to seven matches following Argentina’s scoreless draw result with Brazil in World Cup qualifying play on Tuesday.

The Argentine did not have his way over the course of the contest. He failed to create a single goal-scoring chance for a teammate and lost 14 of his 21 ground duels in the match.

Nonetheless, Argentina has now qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Argentina still has four 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures remaining on its schedule, with all of them coming next year.

For now, Messi is set to feature for PSG in its upcoming key fixtures following the November international break.
