Match Preview: Messi and Ramos Could Feature For PSG Against Nantes

Paris Saint-Germain returns to action on November 20, 2021, where they will welcome FC Nantes to the Parc des Princes in a Ligue 1 battle that could see Les Parisiens extend their lead at the top of the table.

The last time we saw PSG was before the international break. They had squeaked out a 3-2 win over Girondins Bordeaux at the Matmut Atlantique in front of thousands of sports fans.

Neymar Jr. put the visitors up 2-0 before halftime and Kylian Mbappé added a third in the 63rd minute. A convincing victory appeared to be inevitable, but Bordeaux scored two late goals to make things interesting. Luckily for Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, time ran out on Bordeaux and three points went to PSG.

Like many Ligue 1 teams this season, Nantes will come to the French capital looking for a result. Long gone are the days of French teams laying down for PSG. Les Canaris sit in 10th place in the table, but only four points separate them from Stade Rennais in 5th place.

Nantes will rely on several players to give Pochettino headaches. In goal is Alban Lafont, one of the best young goalkeepers in Europe. Ludovic Blas is the main talisman for Nantes with 6 goals in 12 appearances and Moses Simon is the primary set-up man with 6 assists to his name. Other names that could trouble PSG include Wylan Cyprien, Marcus Coco, and Andrei Girotto.

For PSG, this will be another opportunity for Pochettino to fine-tune his tactics and figure out how to unlock the potential of the squad he has available to him. Mbappé will play a pivotal role, as will Neymar. Both will be expected to get on the scoresheet. Lionel Messi missed the match against Bordeaux with a knee injury and it remains to be seen if he will be available for the Nantes match. If he can’t go, expect Angel Di Maria or Julian Draxler to fill in.

Along with the Messi news, PSG fans are eagerly awaiting to find out whether Sergio Ramos will be fit enough to make an appearance. The Spain international arrived alongside Messi this summer but has yet to feature for Les Parisiens. With PSG’s defense struggling this season, many predict his inclusion in the starting lineup could make a major difference.

As always, we never know what Pochettino will do with the goalkeeper position. Keylor Navas and Gianluigi Donnarumma are both world-class players, but only one can play at a time. In my opinion, Donnarumma will get the start as preparation for the upcoming UEFA Champions League fixture against Manchester City.

Last season, PSG defeated Nantes 3-0 at the Stade de la Beaujoire but lost the return fixture in Paris 2-1.
