This summer, Lionel Messi unexpectedly said goodbye to FC Barcelona and signed a two-year contract (plus an option for a third year) with Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi has been with Paris Saint-Germain for 100 days. Spanish media outlet El Espanol (via Foot01) decided to break down the departure and discuss how it affected all parties involved to commemorate the milestone.

Through his first couple of months, Messi has struggled to adapt to Ligue 1 as he’s yet to score in domestic competition. El Español writes that he’s also uncomfortable off the pitch, considering he and his family have yet to feel comfortable in Paris. Also, the 34-year-old’s mind is on a return to FC Barcelona.

“[Messi] is not the decisive player he was at Barca either, and his daily life is not as expected either. He is not comfortable with the life he leads in Paris, nor is his wife Antonela and their three children,” El Español wrote.

“In the end, Barcelona did not manage to get out of his mind. He keeps thinking about a return to Barcelona.”

Furthermore, one of the aspects of Messi coming to PSG was to pair him alongside his former FC Barcelona teammate Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappé, but the trio has yet to click this season.

“The bases for his signing at PSG were clear: forming a dream trio with a Mbappé, who was not allowed to sign at Real Madrid, and his friend Neymar. But this trident does not work, and only the French player seems to do the job,” El Español added.

There was also a rift over this international break regarding Argentina’s decision to call up Messi despite dealing with a hamstring injury, so it has yet to be the glamour signing some people visioned in August when the Argentine forward arrived in August.
