This summer, Lionel Messi unexpectedly departed FC Barcelona after the Spanish club couldn’t extend the 34-year-old without being salary cap compliant. Afterward, the Argentine forward would end up signing with Paris Saint-Germain.
As reality is setting in that Messi is part of the capital club’s squad, the mother of Kylian Mbappé, Fayza Lamari, spoke with Le Parisien, where she discussed the reaction that her son had knowing that he’s playing alongside Messi this season.
“He is very happy! Last week he even asked him for his jersey. Kylian will be able to tell his children later that he played against Cristiano and with Neymar and Messi, his idols of youth,” Lamari said.
“He had the posters of these players in his room. After PSG’s decision to keep him, he replied: You saw mom with whom I’m going to play. To win, you better be in this team this year.”
Messi and Mbappé are getting to know each other, and their tendencies on the pitch as the squad looks to gel. Nonetheless, the two did provide a glimpse of what they can do together on Messi’s first goal with PSG in the UEFA Champions League against Manchester City.
On the play, Messi passed the ball to Mbappé, but the 22-year-old understood that he had to give it right back for the Argentine to put it past Ederson with a brilliant strike.
