Wijnaldum Opens Up on What It Is Like to Play Alongside Messi

It is still a shock to many that Lionel Messi is a Paris Saint-Germain player. The Argentine forward ended his lengthy run with Barcelona over the recent summer transfer window and opted to sign with the French powerhouse on a free transfer deal.

New PSG midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has been in awe of sharing the pitch with Messi at the club this season. The veteran Dutch midfielder talent sees that Messi has so far provided for a much-needed momentum booster to the team over the early portions of the campaign.

In speaking to FIFA’s official website, Wijnaldum offered his takeaways on what it has been like to tag along with Messi on the pitch.

“To see greatness from such a short distance is hard to describe,” Wijnaldum said. “He’s one of the best players ever. To see him train everyday is a real honour. And to see how nice he is as a person, it makes it even more special. Everyone at PSG is really happy. It’s given the club a real boost. I’m blessed to have him as a team-mate.”

Much is expected out of Messi to put out for vintage performances for PSG following the October international break, including in the upcoming Ligue 1 fixture against Olympique de Marseille. This could be a season-changing match for the six-time Ballon d’Or winner.
