In the standings, Paris Saint-Germain shouldn’t have much to worry about thus far in the season. The capital club has a comfortable lead in Ligue 1 and sits atop Group A in front of Manchester City; they have a victory over the Premier League side.
Nonetheless, Les Parisiens have shown their warts and aren’t progressing as the season proceeds, something one would expect from a squad. However, despite the results, PSG isn’t convincing in their performances, which is why there’s criticism toward manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Following PSG’s 2-1 win over Lille OSC, the French giants sporting director Leonardo spoke with the media at a press conference where he defended the Argentine tactician with L’Equipe relaying the comments.
“It is as if the coach does not know what a game plan is and does not understand anything. He seeks, we seek. Pochettino, before arriving he was a top 5 manager now; supposedly, he does not understand anything anymore. We have changed things. The accounts, we’ll do them at the end. We are in a hurry at PSG; that’s normal,” Leonardo said.
“With a team like that, we want to win this year, that’s for sure. If we’re going to be successful, I don’t know. That we have all the means, I am convinced. We have a coach; we have a very large workforce. Why should I be worried? We can be better. If we look at what we have, why would I be worried?”
These remarks are a vote of confidence in Pochettino despite some calling for the manager to be sacked and pursue some prominent unemployed managers out in the market, such as Antonio Conte or Zinedine Zidane.
Nonetheless, it appears as though that hoping for a managerial change might be disappointing.
