“We failed to score” – Mauricio Pochettino discusses PSG’s loss to Stade Rennais

Paris Saint-Germain is coming off a quality win against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League; however, Mauricio Pochettino’s squad received a quick dose of reality following their 2-0 loss to Stade Rennais.

In the first half, the capital club had plenty of scoring chances to open the scoring, but the French giants failed to capitalize on their opportunities, leaving the door open for Rennes, who brought their best form.

Rennes would strike with a minute left in the first half and then again in the first minute of the second. PSG did score a goal by Kylian Mbappé. Nonetheless, a review by VAR would take that away as the 22-year-old was offside.

Following the match, Pochettino spoke to the microphones of Amazon Prime (via Culture PSG), and the Argentine tactician blamed himself for the performance in northwest France.

“Yes, we are very sad because we played 25 or 30 minutes. What we did best in the match, is before this first goal. But we failed to score. The goal conceded at the end of the first period, and the other at the start of the second were really hard for the team to concede.

“We created opportunities for ourselves, we were unhappy, but we have to stay positive and keep working. We must also recover well; we will have two weeks to recharge the batteries.”

The FIFA international break will see various players head to their national team as some are competing in World Cup Qualifiers.
