Although Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino is coming away with results, the Argentine tactician has the capital club atop Ligue 1, and they’re leading Group A ahead of Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League.
However, critics of Pochettino are going after him due to how the team is playing from a style point of view. When a squad has Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr., and Kylian Mbappé, it should be dominating the opposition, but at times, PSG has struggled to score against clubs that aren’t at their level.
During his press conference, Pochettino spoke with the media, where one of the questions he answered was over the positioning of Messi on the pitch to get the most out of the 34-year-old.
“The tactical disposition of the team, we have a base which can vary. We have a basic reference for offensive and defensive animation. Each player has, in principle, certain responsibilities depending on his position. We give the players freedom,” Pochettino said.
“Leo is a player who can play on the right or in the middle, also the number 10 as in the Argentine national team. He is a player who can play anywhere, depending on how the action unfolds. He’s the best player in the world. He positions himself where the game demands it, and according to the needs of the team.”
