Paris Saint-Germain battled throughout the contest, but the team simply failed to score in its 2-0 Ligue 1 loss to Rennes.
PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino featured Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe upfront in the team’s 4-2-3-1 formation. While the trio had several promising sequences over the course of the match, they still could not muster up a single goal.
After the result, Pochettino was asked (via Le Parisien) whether he still plans to line up four attackers in matches for the remainder of the season. In his response, the Argentine manager refused to place the blame on the team’s notable tactical system.
“I don’t think we can link the result to systems or players on the field,” Pochettino said. “It should not condition the analysis. I remind you that we played 25-30 minutes of quality in the first half, it’s a pity that we didn’t know how to concretize our actions at that moment.”
The October international break has now arrived, as the likes of Messi (Argentina) and Neymar (Brazil) will now go on to feature with their respective national teams.
Overall, PSG still holds the top spot in the Ligue 1 standings with 24 points through nine matches. More so, the side holds a six-point lead over second place RC Lens in the standings.
