Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino opted to start Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in the Ligue 1 away fixture against Olympique de Marseille. The trio did not have their way over the course of the match, as PSG finished scoreless in the encounter.
Pochettino elected to slot in Neymar as the team’s central attacking midfielder in the match. He created a trio of goal-scoring chances in the fixture, but he also lost eight ground duels.
In speaking after the match (via Le Parisien), Pochettino offered his takeaways from Neymar’s showing against PSG’s longtime Ligue 1 rivals.
“With Neymar a little more free as a third midfielder, with Leo (Messi) and Kylian (Mbappe) up front,” Pochettino said. “I am satisfied with what Neymar did today. He showed commitment to the team.”
The Brazilian forward has had a difficult time in finding the back of the net as of late, which has included a mere one goal scored in his last six matches in all competitions with PSG.
Neymar sure will look to get on the scoreboard in PSG’s upcoming matchup against reigning Ligue 1 champions Lille OSC.
