Messi Starts for Paris Saint-Germain in First Classique

Lionel Messi will get his first taste of Le Classique on Sunday as the former FC Barcelona superstar starts for Paris Saint-Germain against Olympique de Marseille at the Orange Vélodrome

Announced on Twitter just moments ago, Mauricio Pochettino’s starting lineup includes Kylian Mbappé, Neymar Jr., and Angel Di Maria alongside Messi in the attack.

In the midfield, Pochettino will rely on the defensive prowess of Danilo Pereira and Marco Verratti, who is having one of his finest seasons for PSG.

On defense, Nuno Mendes and Achraf Hakimi line up at full-back and you can bet on them joining the attack early and often. At center-back, Presnel Kimpembe teams up with Marquinhos and all eyes will be on the Frenchman who has struggled thus far.

In goal, Pochettino opts for Keylor Navas over Gianluigi Donnarumma. Throughout the season, the two world-class keepers have shared time between the sticks for PSG and it’s really a mystery why Pochettino chooses one over the other at this point.

On the bench, Pochettino has Donnarumma, Juan Bernat, Abdou Diallo, Thilo Kehrer, Georginio Wijnaldum, Ander Herrera, Julian Draxler, Idrisa Gueye, and Mauro Icardi.

Overall, it’s a really strong lineup for PSG and one that should get the job done. Of course, they’ll be going up against Marseille and their raucous supporters. This match promises to be entertaining with plenty of talking points.
