Much attention for Paris Saint-Germain this season has centered on the team’s star-studded attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. However, they have not yet had a dominant performance together this season.
Many see that for PSG to succeed with this trio, it would take more than just forcing them to beat defenses on their own, which Mbappe is in agreement with.
In speaking to RMC Sport, Mbappe touched on the tactics that Pochettino has placed on him, Messi and Neymar, where he shared that it will take much teamwork from this trio to make the most out of their time together.
“He gives you a lot of freedom, but you still have to square off,” Mbappe said. “You have to fit into a collective framework, into a block. You can’t just hand over the keys to the truck and say, ‘Go for it, all three of you.’ There’s freedom, of course.
“I think for the three of us to be good, there has to be a modicum of freedom, that we can be free to move around to create. That’s what we’re going to be asked to do, to make a difference. But we must always remain within this collective framework. It’s essential if we want to win major competitions.”
Messi, Neymar and Mbappe will have key tests upcoming following the October international break, which will include the pivotal UEFA Champions League home group stage fixture against RB Leipzig. It will be noteworthy to see on how this trio will perform in this key matchup.
