History Shows Why Lionel Messi Is Due for a Strong Run of Performances in Ligue 1

When Lionel Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain over the recent summer transfer window, there was much expectation that the forward would put out for dominant performances with ease. However, this has not been the case so far this season.

The Argentine forward has not yet recorded a goal or an assist through three league matches played this season. Most notably, he had several shots and created multiple goal-scoring chances in the team’s Ligue 1 fixture against Rennes but still failed to record a single goal contribution.

Of course, there is not much concern over Messi’s performances this season considering his caliber of play. More so, one could pinpoint last season as an example of why strong showings may soon be coming from him.

Over the early stages of the 2020-2021 La Liga campaign with Barcelona, the forward scored a mere one goal over the team’s opening eight league matches. He still managed to score 30 league goals in the campaign.

It is early, but there certainly should not be any concern with Messi’s play through a mere three Ligue 1 matches. The Argentine sure will look to pick up goal contributions in league play following the October international break.
