‘His Time Is Up’ – The Mother of Kylian Mbappé Comments on Why He Asked for a Departure From PSG This Summer

This summer, Kylian Mbappé asked to leave Paris Saint-Germain, as the 22-year-old confirmed in his interview with RMC Sport. However, the France international was more than happy to stay with the French giants and play out the final year of his contract.

In an interview with Le Parisien, Mbappé’s mother, Fayza Lamari, spoke to the French media outlet. She discussed why her son was pondering a departure from the capital club this summer.

Lamari mentions that it’s his dream to play for PSG and Real Madrid; Mbappé wanted to leave this summer because he wished the Ligue 1 side would receive compensation from his departure.

“This is already his 5th season in Paris. He took time to think because he also had the possibility of prolonging, it is always possible besides because nobody can claim to know the future. If he asked to leave, it is because his time is up. We did not want to go free so we wanted to bring his departure forward by one year so that the club could receive compensation. We cannot then be reproached for leaving free,” Lamari said.

“But I understand that PSG wants to keep Kylian. I also do not forget that his transfer from Monaco to PSG in 2017 blocked at €145 million and it was Nasser (Al-Khelaïfi, president of PSG) who had made it possible to raise the Parisian proposal to €180 million on August 31. I also understand that the supporters are not happy. But he has dreams of playing for both PSG and Real Madrid.”

Despite these comments, Lamari also has stated that discussions regarding a contract extension with PSG are going well. It will be interesting to see what transpires over these next few months considering in January; the 22-year-old can sign a pre-contract with any club for the 2022-23 season.
