Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti orchestrated one standout performance in his team’s UEFA Champions League home group stage fixture against Manchester City.
From the five dribbles completed to the sheer high workrate displayed over the course of the fixture, the Italian midfielder simply shined in PSG’s biggest match of the season so far.
Former Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte is well familiar with Verratti, as he coached the midfielder during his notable stint as manager of the Italian national team. And in speaking to the Italian-based outlet Sky Sport, Conte offered a simplistic take on just how pivotal the veteran talent is to PSG’s midfield.
“Verratti is indispensable for this team,” Conte said. “He brings personality, quantity and quality.”
PSG sure will need more all-around performances from the Italian midfielder this season, including in Champions League fixtures. In the big picture, PSG simply needs Verratti to remain available for the team, especially as he has had to deal with a multitude of injuries over his run with the Ligue 1 giants.
