‘You Could Say He’s a Future Crack’ – Portuguese Football Expert Gives Insight to Nuno Mendes

Paris Saint-Germain made one final addition to their squad hours before the summer transfer window closed, and it addressed one of the weak spots, which is left-back.

Despite having Juan Bernat, who’s coming off a severe knee injury, and Abdou Diallo, the French giants, decided to find a long-term solution. Mendes made 47 appearances while scoring one goal and registering three assists.

The capital club brought in Sporting CP defender Nuno Mendes on loan with a €40-million option to buy. Eric Frosio, the Portuguese football specialist for L’Equipe, appeared on LÉquipe du Soir (via Canal Supporters), where he provided some insight to Mendes during his time with Sporting.

“Nuno Mendes, you could say he’s a future crack. This is how he is seen here in Lisbon and Portugal. He’s young. Since his entry into the starting eleven of Sporting, he has not left his post. Instead, he played as a left-winger in a 3-4-3. We especially saw his offensive qualities, his ability to center, provoke, dribble. He is very fast. Fortunately, he also knows how to defend,” Frosio said.

“That’s what Leonardo and Pochettino are looking for, I imagine. It’s a great future. €40-million may seem expensive, but it will be worth a lot more in a few years. He is the counterpart for Achraf Hakimi. I think Leonardo has concocted an incredible transfer window. PSG has a dream team. They’re now obliged to win the Champions League.”

The addition of the 19-year-old helps complete the overhaul that the Ligue 1 side’s full-back situation with Achraf Hakimi also coming in this summer. The team will see if all these additions, especially on their backline, are enough to win the club’s first UEFA Champions League trophy.
