The Argentina national team is set for a trio of notable 2022 World Cup qualifying fixtures in September, which includes the key clash against Brazil.

New Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi has only featured in one fixture since the 2021 Copa America Final. Still, Argentina national manager Lionel Scaloni is much backing Messi to feature in all three of La Albiceleste’s upcoming international fixtures, which he spoke further about during a press conference on Wednesday (via TyC Sports).

“If Messi is physically fit, he will be a starter,” Scaloni said. “We are evaluating match after match and from what I talked to him, he is fine and there are no doubts whatsoever. Logically, without the minutes he was getting in the Cup, but you know what my response and my thoughts are regarding him. He will play and we expect him to play in all three matches if he is fit.”

Argentina is set for a pivotal international fixture against Venezuela on Thursday.
