Lionel Messi has a couple of appearances with Paris Saint-Germain, but it remains hard to believe that the 34-year-old is with the capital club and not with FC Barcelona.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola managed the Argentine forward for a few seasons with the Spanish side. At his press conference ahead of the match against PSG, the Premier League tactician stated his shock to see Messi playing elsewhere other than Barcelona.
Nonetheless, Guardiola hopes to see his former player out on the pitch Tuesday night.
“It happened when I was at Bayern. It’s hard to find a player and a coach who have a long career together. I played against him when I was at Bayern and here at Manchester City. See him at PSG? It was a surprise to everyone, but what happened happened. Now everyone accepts it. Long ago, it would have been hard to imagine it, but it happened.
“In life, you never know what can happen. The important thing is that he is happy in Paris! I think this type of player speaks for himself on the pitch; I don’t need to add anything. We had the chance to see him during these 16 years. No need to describe him or talk about him; his career is exceptional. Hopefully, tomorrow he can play for the good of the game!”
