Paris Saint-Germain had one of the more busy summers of any football club as they cornered the free transfer market and revamped their full-back situation.
The capital club brought in players such as Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Gianluigi Donnarumma on free transfers. Furthermore, they also added Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes to strengthen their left and right-back positions.
Despite these additions to his squad, manager Mauricio Pochettino still doesn’t see PSG as the favorite, and that title remains with Chelsea FC, the reigning Champions League winners. The Premier League side also improved their squad by adding one of the better strikers in Romelu Lukaku.
“Are we favorite? It is possible that Chelsea and we are the two teams to beat on paper, given our numbers, but Chelsea are the defending champions,” Pochettino said at his press conference. “We invested even more than Paris this summer. For me, they’re the team to beat.”
“We are a club that has recruited a lot, but now we have to lay the foundations to become a great team. We know that we will be judged at the end of the season on our results. The pressure still exists in all the clubs. We know that in Paris Saint-Germain, the Champions League is a major objective.”
