Many Paris Saint-Germain supporters were hopeful this season that the club would integrate some of the youth players. The likes of Ismaël Gharbi, Xavi Simons, and Edouard Michut were some of the names some wanted to see receive minutes this season.
However, with the mentality of trying to win everything domestically and the UEFA Champions League, the focus on bringing some of these young players along has fallen by the wayside for the moment.
During his press conference, manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke about the lack of playing time for some young players.
“It is obvious that it is not easy for young players. We have a large workforce. It is not easy to find a place there (…) It is a project that everyone knows whose ambition is to win the best competitions in the world, such as the Champions League. For the moment, given the circumstances, (the youngsters) may not have the option of starting or playing,” Pochettino said.
Still, I’m sure that over time they will be able to acquire a certain solidity that would be perfect for the club. Within a few years, we hope that the club will be able to integrate a lot more young people from the squad, already because there is a lot of talent here, but also because it would be a great thing for the supporters and the club. In any case, this is what we want in the future.”
