In the final hours of the summer transfer window, Paris Saint-Germain aimed to sew up one of the weak spots on its squad, the left-back position. The capital club would secure the Nuno Mendes from Sporting CP on a loan deal with a €40-million option to buy.
The Ligue 1 side brought in the 19-year-old, who has a bright future, which is why the teenager is nominated for the Golden Boy trophy. Since 2003, Tuttosport has provided the award for the top young footballer in Europe, and the left-back is among 40 players.
On October 15th, the next round of cuts will occur as a panel of 40 journalists decides the best young footballer. As for Mendes, he made 47 appearances for Sporting last season, helping the Portuguese side win the Primeira Liga.
Now at PSG, Mendes has the chance to further his case and make the next round of cuts with his play for the remainder of this month and the early parts of October. Should he win, the teenage defender would join Kylian Mbappé as a PSG player to receive the award.
