Draxler Analyzes the One Area of Play PSG Must Improve on This Season

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Julian Draxler spotlighted the team’s defensive play as the one area it must continue to improve on over this season.

PSG’s attack has been at the top of its game so far this season, as it leads Ligue 1 in goals scored with 12. However, the Ligue 1 powerhouse has had sequences of sluggish defensive play, which was noted when the side allowed two goals to Strasbourg earlier this season.

Draxler well recognizes that PSG must continue to show grand improvements over on the defensive side of the ball, which he spoke further to PSG TV about.

“I’m not talking about defenders or goalkeepers — it’s always the whole team that needs to do the work,” Draxler said. “That starts in midfield. We need to keep the ball better and not lose it too easily because, afterwards, we also cause problems for our defenders. The forwards need to work to help out as well, and that’s why I always talk about the whole team.”

As the German midfielder touched upon, it will take a collective effort from the team to tweak its minor defensive issues.

PSG’s defensive system will get multiple notable tests over the first half of the season, such as in the upcoming UEFA Champions League group stage duels against Manchester City.
