Over the latter stages of the recent summer transfer window, Real Madrid made a late attempt to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe on a permanent transfer deal. However, PSG refused to sell the French forward, which then put a halt to this possible blockbuster move.
To the surprise of many, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo wanted Mbappe to join Real Madrid. In speaking during the fifth edition of the Torneo de Fútbol Cadete Vicente del Bosque de Alalpardo, Cerezo revealed (via Sport) on just why he would have liked this move to come to fruition.
“I would have liked Mbappe to have come to Real Madrid because for the Spanish competition it would have been fantastic and wonderful,” Cerezo said.
Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are well known rivals. More so, Atletico Madrid has been tabbed by many to win La Liga this season. Had Mbappe joined Real Madrid over the summer transfer window, it surely would have slotted Los Blancos up as the favorites to win the league.
The rumors linking Mbappe to Real Madrid surely are not over just yet.
