Video: ‘It Was Just a Photo’ – Lionel Messi Explains Background to Picture Alongside PSG Players

Lionel Messi said goodbye to FC Barcelona Sunday as the contract extension that both parties had agreed to couldn’t be registered due to economic and structural obstacles. As a result, the 34-year-old remains a free agent and appears to be going to Paris Saint-Germain.

During Messi’s press conference, one of the questions that the media wanted an answer to was the background to what is now an infamous photo. The picture in which the Argentine forward is posing with Ángel Di María, Leandro Paredes, Neymar Jr., and Marco Verratti.

The former Barcelona player shed some light on that picture in Ibiza, Spain. TyC Sports relayed the comments made by Messi.

“Let me explain quickly because it is bulls**t. At the Copa América we had talked about meeting in Ibiza (with Di María and Paredes). The day before I came, Ney, who is also a friend, calls me: ‘I’m in Ibiza, let’s see each other,'” Messi said.

“We went, had a barbecue with friends and took a photo. There was also Verratti. At that time, there were even jokes. ‘Come to Paris,’ they told me. But it was just a photo of friends, and now it is given more importance.”
