The Paris Saint-Germain-Stade de Reims fixture had many viewers as it would be the match that would see Lionel Messi make his debut with the capital club. The 34-year-old would play 24 minutes as he gets his feet wet in Ligue 1.
Following the 2-0 victory by PSG, manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke to the media, where Canal Supporters relayed his comments. The Argentine tactician provided his thoughts on the debut of Messi, and Pochettino was generally happy for his compatriot.
“I think it was good. I’m very happy to see [Messi] make his debut. It was important to him. He is still far from his best form, but he is training very well, and obviously, he will be in great shape a few weeks after the international break,” Pochettino said.
“But yes, we expect the best from him (…). I felt him very well from his entry into play and his first touches of the ball. He brought serenity to the team. It’s important to get off to a good start, even for him. He was happy, and he is well integrated into the group. It was a matter of common sense not to start it.”
