Paris Saint-Germain appears to be willing to work out a deal with former FC Barcelona Lionel Messi after the 34-year-old was unable to agree on a contract with the Spanish side due to economic and structural obstacles.
The Atheltic confirms Messi has talked with PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino, which triggered talks between the French side and the Argentine forward—despite Les Parisiens believing that Messi is too expensive.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi leads the discussions. The club’s operations team has already held conversations about how the Ligue 1 side can maximize commercial avenues to reflect Messi’s stature.
Furthermore, the French giants believe that the cost of signing Messi will be overtaken by the commercial revenue he generates for the club. Then there’s the French league aspect of this deal, thanks to the knock-on effect his presence could have on broadcasting rights.
Messi and the capital club continue to talk, and it remains an interesting topic of how PSG works out a deal to land the former Barcelona star.
