Lionel Messi and FC Barcelona have parted ways due to economic and structural obstacles that prevented a contract extension between the two parties. Now it seems as though the only viable destination appears to be Paris Saint-Germain and the capital club wants to land the 34-year-old.
The Independent (via Canal Supporters) reports Messi has had direct talks with PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino. The French giants want to secure the transfer since they’ve long had an interest in the Argentine forward.
Furthermore, the English media reports that with Manchester City purchasing Jack Grealish for £100-million (around €117-million) and their interest in Tottenham Hotspur Harry Kane, PSG remains the only viable option.
Les Parisiens appear to be the most viable option among the few clubs that can afford Messi’s salary. The former FC Barcelona forward is unlikely to receive similar wages that Barcelona offered. However, Messi could still earn up to £500,000 a week, depending on the economic opportunities that present themselves.
Outside of PSG, The Independent adds that another option is MLS, with Inter Miami having had long talks with Messi’s representatives in the past.
