Pochettino Provides a Key Update on Mbappe’s Availability for PSG’s Upcoming Ligue 1 Opener

Many expected to see Kylian Mbappe feature in the 2021 Trophee des Champions Final against Lille OSC. Instead, PSG’s coaching staff elected to not even include him in the team’s squad list, as they opted for him to prepare for the upcoming Ligue 1 season.

For the moment, Mbappe could possibly end up missing PSG’s 2021-2022 Ligue 1 opener against Troyes AC.

In speaking following PSG’s loss against Lille, manager Mauricio Pochettino provided (via Le10Sport) a key update on whether Mbappe will go on to feature in the team’s opening match of the Ligue 1 season.

“We’ll see because we have to see the form that he will be in by the game that’s coming up,” Pochettino said. “It’s the same for those who played in the Euro and the Copa America, and there are some players who are coming. We have to be very intentional in the way we play these players. They must be able to prepare themselves, it’s not an easy situation.”

Mbappe has already taken part in multiple key training sessions with the team ever since returning from his mini-vacation. But it was still not enough for the PSG’s coaching staff to give him the green light to feature in the final against Lille.

If Mbappe will not be able to play against Troyes, Pochettino may have to roll out yet another makeshift starting 11 as the remaining first-team players who will soon join up with the team may not be match ready for this fixture.
