Paris Saint-Germain has now emerged as the frontrunner to sign current free agent and longtime Barcelona star Lionel Messi to a multiyear free transfer deal.
As noted by RMC Sport, PSG has already opened up negotiations with Messi for such an agreement. Still, a deal between the two sides has not yet been reached.
On the other hand, Neymar has been working behind the scenes to bring his former Barca teammate to the French powerhouse, the report added.
Neymar has gone as far as offering Messi his No. 10 shirt, which the Brazilian has donned since arriving at PSG in 2017. Messi wore the No. 10 shirt during his time at Barca, but for his possible run at PSG, he is not interested in wearing this number.
Still, it is currently not known just what shirt number the Argentine forward will choose to go with should he decide to join PSG.
For the moment, there is no immediate rush for PSG to sign Messi, especially as the forward is a free agent.
