New Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum made his very first Ligue 1 appearance with the team during its key away fixture against Troyes AC.
As Wijnaldum is under no minutes restriction, the Dutch midfielder featured in the entirety of the match, where he helped the team finish with a pivotal 2-1 win.
After the win, Wijnaldum spoke (via PSG TV) on his initial takeaways from making his opening appearance in Ligue 1 in this match.
“I’m really happy to get the win,” Wijnaldum said. “But I have to say it was a really tough game, a really hard one, as you could see, because Troyes just didn’t give up. They scored a good first goal and we came back really well, but they kept fighting to try and win the game so it was difficult.
“There were moments in the game I think we could have played better than we did, but in the end, the important thing was to win the game. It’s always a good quality to be able to come back and stay in the game after conceding a goal.”
PSG’s next fixture in Ligue 1 play will come against Strasbourg on Aug. 14. This will be PSG’s home opener for the new league campaign, which may provide Wijnaldum with an opportunity to leave a grand first impression in front of the home crowd at the Parc des Princes.
More so, the likes of Angel Di Maria and Marco Verratti may make their season debut with PSG in this upcoming key league matchup.
