Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti had a magnificent summer, winning the UEFA Euros with the Italy national team. Verratti would be part of an infamous vacation following the European tournament where he posed alongside Neymar Jr., Leandro Paredes, Ángel Di María, and Lionel Messi.
A few days later, FC Barcelona would not be salary cap compliant if they signed Messi, leading the 34-year-old to depart the Spanish club and sign with PSG.
Verratti would speak with the Italian media outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Paris Fans), where he discussed various topics, the first being the arrival of Messi to the Ligue 1 side.
“To have Messi here is incredible,” Verratii said. “I didn’t believe it until I saw him. We already knew each other. He may not speak much, but for me, he’s the best in history, technical, selfless. I don’t think he will have a hard time finding a starting position. The recruiting campaign has been incredible.”
The next question that the PSG midfielder answered is over the additions to the squad. The French giants cornered the free transfer market this summer and spent money to land Inter Milan right-back Achraf Hakimi.
“Hakimi is very strong, so is Donnarumma. We have experienced champions like Wijnaldum and Sergio Ramos. We can’t let such an opportunity pass by; it’s not often that you get the opportunity to play for such a strong team,” Verratti said.
It’s UEFA Champions League or bust, and Verratti will hope that his European success translates to the club level.
