It’s only a matter of time before Gianluigi Donnarumma sees the pitch for Paris Saint-Germain. However, before the 22-year-old appears in the net for the capital club, he interviewed with Corriere dello Sport (via Canal Supporters), speaking on various topics.
Donnarumma spoke about his departure from AC Milan, which was a controversial decision, considering the Italian club didn’t receive a transfer fee for arguably the best young goalkeeper in the world.
“I spent eight years in Milan; it was my home; I had wonderful moments there. I have a lot of respect for all the people who work at the club. Milan is a club that still gives me emotion today,” Donnarumma said.
Furthermore, Donnarumma stated that he makes his decisions on his football career despite many suggesting that his agent, Mino Raiola, is pulling strings for his client.
“My professional choices, I have always taken them alone. My family has always given me free rein and has always supported me. The same goes for Mino Raiola,” Donnarumma said.
“He always respects the choices of his players, after which he obviously seeks to satisfy their will. I left Milan and had no contact with any other club, I swear. But I was sure that with a good Euro, a club would have contacted me.”
Finally, the PSG goalkeeper touched on the arrival of Lionel Messi to the squad, which has been a surreal moment for the Italy international. Donnarumma didn’t think he would be Messi’s teammate following the player’s departure from FC Barcelona.
“It’s incredible, a real twist: when we heard his farewell to Barcelona, I could not imagine that I would find him here; it is a team of phenomena. Messi is already training with us, poor eh? He should improve with his right foot,” Donnarumma jokingly said.
Donnarumma will split time with Keylor Navas as the two share the goalkeeping position this season for PSG.
