‘We Still Have Work to Do’ — Pochettino Discusses Takeaways from PSG’s Preseason Win Over Augsburg

Paris Saint-Germain came away with a narrow 2-1 win in its preseason friendly fixture against Bundesliga side FC Augsburg.

As was the case in PSG’s previous two preseason fixtures, manager Mauricio Pochettino only played a select few of his regular first-team talents in this match. Still, it was enough for PSG to prevail with the win in the end.

Overall, Pochettino still sees that there is plenty of work to do ahead of the upcoming new Ligue 1 campaign. The Argentine manager spoke further to PSG TV about the team’s work so far in preseason.

“I am really happy with the way we are working, the goal is not only the result, it is the preparation,” Pochettino said. “It’s always better when you win because we love competition. But I’m also happy with the involvement of the players.

“Of course, we still have work to do because this is only the start of the season and there is a lot to improve. For young prospects, it is especially important to have this kind of experience, because playing a game against a Bundesliga team like Augsburg allows them to learn. And of course, for older players, it’s important to work on form and improve day by day.”

PSG will have two more friendly fixtures upcoming before it clashes with reigning Ligue 1 winners Lille OSC in the 2021 Trophee des Champions Final. The French powerhouse will take on Serie A side Genoa and La Liga club Sevilla over the coming week.

For now, PSG’s coaching staff is expected to schedule key training sessions ahead of the upcoming fixture against Genoa.
