Argentina ended its notable major international trophy drought following its win against Brazil in the 2021 Copa America Final.
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Leandro Paredes featured for Argentina over the course of the tournament, which included earning a start in the final against the Selecao.
As for the rest of the Argentina players, Paredes comes away from the win filled with joy at seeing La Albiceleste finally win another Copa America title.
In speaking to the Argentina-based outlet TyC Sports, Paredes took a look back on the final win against Brazil.
“We had no pressure,” Paredes said. “We went out to play a dream final. Not even in the best of dreams would it be as perfect as it was: playing in Brazil with the national team, at the Maracana and winning it. We are aware that we will go down in the country’s history.
“I see the Argentine people very happy and for all of us it is a huge joy, so we are celebrating it to the maximum.”
Paredes much credits the unity that was formed among the Argentina players over the Copa America as to why they were all able to finish the tournament with a first place medal.
“We made a fantastic group, we have been together for two years now and I think we have grown a lot,” Paredes said. “We went from small to big in terms of football and the group became very strong.
“The group was always together, knowing how important this Copa América was for the whole country, and winning it crowned everything.”
The Argentine midfielder has added a bulk of experience playing in the biggest games in world football over the past couple of years, from starring in the UEFA Champions League knockout stage to featuring in the Copa America tournament.
