The Italian national team took care of business in the Euro 2020 Quarterfinal round as it defeated Belgium by a 2-1 final score.
Goals from Nicolo Barella and Lorenzo Insigne proved to be enough for the Azzurri in the match as it is now in the semifinals of Euro 2020.
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti earned a start against Belgium; he recorded an assist over his 74 minutes of playing time in the match.
Verratti comes away from the fixture much pleased with the result, which the midfielder spoke further about to the Italian-based station Rai Sport (via TuttoMercatoWeb).
“We are happy because we work so hard to achieve these goals,” Verratti said. “Today our goal was to get to the semifinals, they were meeting a great team, and we played the game openly. We deserved this win.”
Overall, Verratti notched 104 touches, won seven ground duels, completed four tackle attempts and created three goal-scoring chances in the match.
The PSG star has so far made the most of his playing time minutes in Euro 2020, which is noteworthy considering that he just recently recovered from a notable knee injury.
Italy now will be taking on Spain in the semifinals of this tournament.
