France will be competing in the Tokyo Olympics in men’s football, and Paris Saint-Germain is allowing for one of its young defenders to pursue a gold medal for Les Bleus.
Timothée Pembélé is heading to Tokyo soon, and the 18-year-old discussed a video published by the club where he underlines the pride to represent his country. However, he does add that he wants to bring a medal back for France this summer.
“We are here to try to bring a medal to France; we know it will not be easy, but anything is possible in football. Representing your country at the Olympic Games is something great, amazing. It is the most beautiful competition in the history of sport in general. For my part, this is the first time that I will represent my country at the Olympic Games. For football, this is something big,” Pembélé said.
“In addition, it had been a long time since France had qualified. The older generations have managed to qualify, we will do everything to honor them. Participating in the Olympic Games with other members of Paris Saint-Germain is something positive. We will try to support each other, look at each other, encourage each other. We will all try to win a medal, for France and for the club!”
France finds itself in a group that includes Japan, Mexico, and South Africa.
