Paris Saint-Germain has already taken part in two preseason fixtures, as it recently defeated Le Mans by a 4-0 final score and came away with a 2-2 draw result against FC Chambly.
With multiple regular starters away from the team after taking part in recent major international tournaments, PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino elected to provide several of the team’s prospects with playing time minutes over the two friendly fixtures.
For one, PSG midfield prospect Xavi Simons featured against Le Mans and FC Chambly and went on to score a goal in each match.
As he also recently touched on, Pochettino sees it has been quite crucial to feature some of the team’s coveted prospects in preseason fixtures.
“It was an intense week of training, some players were tired, but it was very important to see our young players with the desire to show themselves,” Pochettino said. “It is my role to integrate these young players into our first team. Our international players must rest so that we can have a great season. They will come back gradually.”
PSG will soon take part in the 2021 Trophee des Champions Final against Lille OSC. Many surely aim to see PSG feature its top prospects in the match, but the Argentine manager is not leaning towards this option at the moment.
“That’s not the priority at all,” Pochettino said.
For now, PSG will have another friendly fixture upcoming against Bundesliga side FC Augsburg.
