Paredes Opens Up on Di Maria’s Recent Resurgence With Argentina

It was only a year ago when Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Angel Di Maria did not have a set place with the Argentina national team.

Di Maria was on the outside looking in with Argentina, but he has managed to turn it all around.

The PSG star not only made Argentina’s final squad list for the 2021 Copa America tournament, but the midfielder went on to score the decisive game-winning goal in the final against Brazil.

Paredes is much in awe of Di Maria’s resurgence with Argentina, which he spoke further about to the Argentine-based outlet TyC Sports.

“I’m very happy for him,” Paredes said. “I know how hard he fought to be in this national team, how much he wanted to come and how much he and his family suffered. I am very happy that he played in the final, that he scored the winning goal. It was very important for us.”

Di Maria played one key role for Argentina over the course of the tournament, which included being a super-sub for La Albiceleste.

Overall, Di Maria is well now established as one of the greatest players in the history of the Argentina national team, especially following a standout tournament in this edition of the Copa America.
