Brazilian defender Dani Alves detailed just why Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar is an underappreciated player in world football today.
Neymar is one player who has become difficult to scrutinize for many. When he is fit and available, the PSG forward performs like one of the top talents in world football. However, inconsistencies and injuries have often marred the Brazilian’s career as of late.
For Alves, there is one reason as to why he sides with many in saying that Neymar is an underappreciated talent in the sport today, which he revealed during his talk with FIFA’s official website.
“He is a genius like there are very, very few,” Alves said. “He is not at all appreciated for his true value. In our country, we feel that it is a crime to succeed.
“He pays for being Brazilian. If he came from another country, with all the things he does and the records he breaks, he would be much higher in the esteem of Brazilians.
“Thanks to Neymar, kids are falling in love with soccer. Football is getting boring, very tactical, very physical. Football should be an art, something beautiful. When you watch Ney play, that’s what you see. There is no player more magical than him. I love soccer and I love watching Neymar play.”
Many can certainly come to an agreement with Alves’ comments on Neymar. The PSG star is well among the most creative on-ball talents today, whether as a dribbler or when creating key goal-scoring chances for teammates.
There are simply not many players in the history of world football that are like the PSG forward.
